LA JOLLA, Calif. - Junior thrower David Wood earned runner-up honors in the men's shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 59 feet, 7.75 inches, leading Arizona State's four-athlete contingent at the UC San Diego Track and Field Open in La Jolla, Calif. Saturday.
Wood, ASU's highest finisher in the two-day meet, improved upon his season best mark of 59-4.25,an effort also meeting the provisional qualifying standard.
Senior Adrienne Judie made her presence known in the women's throws, turning in a personal-best mark and improving her current school record in the women's hammer with an NCAA provisional qualifying effort of 184-1 to finish seventh. Judie also placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 47-6.25 and took 12th in the discus by matching her personal best with a mark of 163-1.
Also competing for ASU were sophomore Vince Mosca and senior Eric Logvin, who placed ninth and 15th, respectively, behind Wood in the men's shot put. Mosca turned in a mark of 54-4.50, while Logvin notched an effort of 47-5.75. Logvin also placed 17th in the men's discus with a mark of 181-00, while Mosca placed second in the open flight of the discus with a mark of 172-4.
ASU has 10 athletes still competing in the first day of the Stanford Invitational Saturday night, but results are not yet available. The last event is scheduled to begin at 11:50 p.m. MST.
