GREENSBORO, N.C. – On the third day of competition at the 2015 NCAA Championships, the Arizona State women’s swimming and diving program posted top times in the program’s record books.
The Sun Devils barely missed the finals of the 200 Free Relay with sophomore Ingi Jonsdottir, freshman Jorie Caneta, junior Marina Spadoni, and senior Melanie Busch finishing the race less than three hundredths out of the finals pace with a time of 1:37.91.
Jonsdottir finished 28th overall in the 100 back with a time of 53:03, the third best time in Arizona State history. Swimming the sixth best time in program history, sophomore Kat Simonovic finished in 44th in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.24.
In a tough field, senior Hailey Casper missed the cut for the finals on the 3-meter springboard. The 2013 NCAA runner-up in the event, Casper scored a total of 295.20 points for 33rd. Freshman Mara Aiacoboae also competed on the springboard event and finished in 46th with a total of 262.80. Competition in Aiacoboae’s signature event of platform begins tomorrow.
Closing out the night, the Arizona State 800 free relay finished 24th overall. The Sun Devil quartet of senior Juanita Barreto, sophomore Kat Simonovic, Spadoni, and Busch swam a finals of time 7:16.41.
The final day of competition at the 2015 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C. concludes tomorrow.
