MESA, Ariz. – The No. 26 Arizona State women’s golf team is in first place with a 7-over 295 after the first 18 holes at the 2015 Clover Cup on Friday.
After day one, the Sun Devils have a one-stroke lead over second-place Notre Dame. In third, Oklahoma is two strokes off the lead with a 9-over 297. In what looks like a three team competition, fourth-place Florida International finished round one with an 18-over 306.
Arizona State leads the field in three categories after day one. ASU leads all teams with 57 pars on the day and in par-three scoring (+1). ASU is also tied for first with Oklahoma on par-four holes, averaging 4.24 per hole.
Through 18 holes, sophomore Monica Vaughn is tied for first with a 3-under 69. Sharing the lead with Oklahoma’s Hannah Wood, Vaughn has three birdies on the day. Vaughn currently leads the field in two categories--par-four holes (-2) and most pars carded (15).
Several golfers are tied for 10th, including Arizona State senior Noemi Jimenez and freshman Ashleigh Greenham with a 2-over 74. Also in the hunt is freshman Sophia Zeeb. Zeeb is currently tied for 17th with a 3-over 75.
Second round action begins Saturday, Mar. 14, at 8:00 a.m. MST. The Sun Devils will tee off beginning at 9:30 a.m. from hole one with Notre Dame and Oklahoma. Live scoring is available via BirdieFire.com.
