The Gym Devils had a strong season for Lacey Rubin's first season, earning a final rank of No. 15 and a team NQS of 197.105. ASU went to NCAA Regionals for the fifth-straight year, advancing to the regional finals. The team had an eight-meet streak of scoring 196.000 or better throughout the regular season. That run included a three-meet winning streak where the Gym Devils upset then-No. 4 Utah, set a program record road score in a win over Washington, and dealt then-No. 11 Oregon State its first loss of the season. Rubin primarily coached the beam squad, which ended the season ranked No. 19. The season high was a 49.475 at regionals, the highest beam total at ASU since 2007.
Rubin became the assistant coach for the Gym Devils on July 12, 2022 to round out the staff.
Rubin came to Tempe after a season as the volunteer assistant coach at Penn State for the 2022 campaign, helping four individuals qualify for regionals. Additionally, she has experience coaching at the club level, both at Centre Elite Gymnastics in Pennsylvania and New Image Gymnastics in New York.
She rejoined former coach Jay Santos, who coached her for a season while she competed at Eastern Michigan. She was a student-athlete from 2014-2018, where she was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team twice. In 2017 and 2018, she was the MAC bar champion. She also helped the team to a MAC championship in 2016 and 2017. In the classroom, she was a distinguished scholar-athlete in 2017 and 2018. Following her time as a student-athlete, she was a volunteer assistant for Eastern Michigan for the 2019 season.
Rubin received both a bachelor's and master's degree from EMU in social work.
