Tim Wells joined the Sun Devil staff in the summer of 2013 as Director of Player Development after spending the previous five years as an assistant at Winston-Salem State University. During his tenure at Winston-Salem State, Wells helped the DII Rams compile a .720 winning percentage including a CIAA Championship in 2011-2012 with an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance.
In 2012-2013 the Rams ranked as high as seventh in the country and won 21 games including another NCAA Division II tournament appearance. Wells was instrumental in recruiting, academic liaison, scouting, skill development, travel, budget, and all other aspects in the program during his time.
Wells spent the 2010-2011 season as a Head Coach in Bosnia-Herzegovina’s A-1 Professional league. His team, Triland Basketball Club, went undefeated in regular season play and suffered only one lost in the semifinal round of games. Triland went on to win the A-1 League Championship and was eligible for promotion. Wells was also (ABA) Head Coach for Professional team Carolina Cheetahs in North Carolina before returning to WSSU in 2011.
As a player at NC State for Coach Sendek, Wells was a two-year co-captain and a two-year starter. He shot .419 from three, ninth-best in NC State history and .877 from the foul line fifth in school history. Tim received the John Speaks award his senior year in 2000 for best teammate. Wells went on to play professionally in Australia and Germany following his college career.
Wells graduated from NC State in 2000 with a B.A. in Interpersonal Communication.
