ASU Water Polo's Mihailovic to Represent Australia Twice This Summer

TEMPE – Arizona State University water polo’s Lena Mihailovic will have herself quite a busy summer as the now-sophomore attacker has been named to the Australian roster for both the 2015 women’s World University Games and the Junior National Team for the 2015 Junior World Championships.

Mihailovic had quite the freshman campaign in 2015 for the Sun Devil water polo team, helping guide the team to a 16-10 overall record.

Mihailovic did a little bit of everything for the Sun Devils this past season, earning a starting spot right out the gates despite only being in Tempe for about two weeks prior to the first games of the season. The youngster finished fourth on the team with 27 goals and second on the team with 19 assists for a grand total of 46 points. She was second on the team with 17 steals and fourth with 19 exclusions drawn and earned MPSF All-Freshman honors for her performance.

She was one of 14 selections to the Australian roster for the 28th FISU Summer Universiade, which will be held June 3-14 in Gwangju, South Korea. The event is the second-largest multi-sport event outside the Olympic Games, featuring 20,000 participants from 170 countries.

From there, Mihailovic will train for the 2015 FINA World Junior Women’s Water Polo Championships in Merida, Mexico. The Australian junior women’s team will meet for a preparation camp in Sydney from August 1-3, before a travelling to the USA for further training and preparation tournaments from August 5-12.

Following their final preparations the team will travel to Mexico for the World Junior Women’s Water Polo Championships from August 17-23, where they have been placed in a group with Italy, Canada and the Netherlands.
