Player Bio: Morris Wooten



ASU: Former junior college transfer who played in 20 games and started 16 over his two seasons at ASU...totaled 119 tackles (71 solo), 10.0 tackles for loss (minus 31 yards), 2.0 sacks (minus 17 yards), two fumble recoveries and an interception in his career...considered a prototypical middle linebacker and a physical player who has speed from sideline to sideline...originally committed to West Virginia, but pledged to ASU only nine days after the announcement of Dennis Erickson as new head coach.

2008: Played in nine games, starting the final eight at middle linebacker...still managed to finish second on the team with 72 tackles (45 solo) on the season...also had 7.0 tackles for loss (minus 27 yards), two sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception...finished with seven or more tackles in six of the nine games he played...led the team with eight tackles (four solo) against No. 3 Georgia on Sept. 20...had seven tackles (four solo) in his first start of the season, at California on Oct. 4...collected seven tackles (four solo) and recovered a fumble in the third quarter at No. 8 USC on Oct. 11...had a fumble recovery and his first career interception against Oregon on Oct. 25, and both turnovers set up the ASU offense inside the Ducks' 10-yard line...recorded 11 tackles (seven solo) at Oregon State on Nov. 1...collected six tackles in win at Washington on Nov. 8 and five tackles in win over Washington State on Nov. 15...led the team with 17 tackles (11 solo) in win over UCLA on Nov. 28...that was the most tackles in a game by an ASU player since Jason Shivers also had 17 in a 2003 game at Iowa...also had his first two career sacks in the game against the Bruins...closed out the season with seven tackles (five solo) at Arizona on Dec. 6.

2007: Played in 11 games, making eight starts at middle linebacker...finished the season with 47 tackles (26 solo) and three tackles for loss (minus four yards)...also had one pass break-up and one forced fumble on the season...had his first career tackle in season-opening win over San Jose State on Sept. 1...collected five tackles (three solo) and forced a fumble in the first quarter of ASU's victory over Colorado on Sept. 8...recorded seven tackles (four solo) against San Diego State on Sept. 15...led the Sun Devils with his season-high 10 tackles (seven solo) in Pac-10 opening victory over Oregon State on Sept. 22...had seven tackles (four solo) at Stanford on Sept. 29...posted five tackles, including a tackle for loss (minus two yards) and a pass break-up at Washington State on Oct. 6...collected five tackles (four solo) in win at UCLA on Nov. 10...recorded five tackles against USC on Nov. 22.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: A 2006 graduate of Glendale (Ariz.) Community College...one of the finest defenders at the junior college level in 2006...named the NJCAA Region 1 Defensive Player of the Year and was one of five nominees for the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2006...earned second-team NJCAA All-America honors as a sophomore...named to the 2006 All-Western States Football League first-team...was a preseason honorable mention NJCAA All-America selection...ranked as a four-star prospect by Scout.com...in 2006 at Glendale CC, he registered 104 tackles, four quarterback sacks and two forced fumbles...Glendale lost in the Valley of the Sun Bowl and finished the 2006 campaign 9-2...was named the WSFL Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 24, 2006) after collecting 15 tackles and a quarterback sack in Glendale's 34-24 win over Eastern Arizona...regarded as a four-star athlete by Scout.com...attended Idaho State for one semester prior to attending Glendale CC...attended the same community college as former ASU linebacker and 2005 Pac-10 Conference Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year Dale Robinson as well as former Sun Devil and current Houston Texan Chris McKenzie...coached by Joe Kersting at Glendale Community College, whose staff included former Sun Devil All-Pac-10 honoree Phillippi Sparks.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Maryvale High School in Phoenix, Ariz....Maryvale also produced current Sun Devil linebacker Robert James.

PERSONAL: Born on Feb. 6, 1986...was raised in Phoenix and attended several Sun Devil football games throughout his youth.
