TEMPE, Ariz. – Recent Arizona State graduate, 2017 NCAA individual medalist and member of the national championship Sun Devil women's golf team Monica Vaughn has been named winner of the Honda Sport Award for women's golf, as announced by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) Thursday.

Vaughn became the storied program's sixth NCAA individual medalist as part of the eighth NCAA championship team in 2017, both nation-leading marks for Division I women's golf.

"I am so honored to receive this award, joining an incredible list of past Sun Devils including Grace Park, Kellee Booth, and Wendy Ward," said Vaughn. "I dedicate it to my incredible coaches, teammates, family, and supporters and could not be prouder to be a Sun Devil for life."

She is also a three-time PING/WGCA All-American, a three-time First Team Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, and represented the United States at the 2016 Curtis Cup.

Vaughn earned five top-three finishes in her last six collegiate tournaments including NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships. She is ranked No. 10 on both the Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings as well as Golfstat.com.

"I could not be prouder of Monica and how she represented Arizona State on the golf course and in the classroom," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "The Honda Award is a tremendous honor and everyone at ASU is very happy for her and her many accomplishments."

Vaughn becomes the fifth winner in ASU women's golf history, first since Grace Park in 1999 (also: Kellee Booth, 1998, and Wendy Ward, 1994, 1995).

The CWSA has annually presented the Honda Sport Award for the past 41 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, signifying "the best of the best in collegiate athletics". The CWSA honors the nation's top NCAA women athletes based on athletics, leadership, academics, and community service.

The award was chosen by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA schools from four total finalists, nominees which also included Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho, Stanford's Andrea Lee, and Duke's Leona Maguire.

Vaughn now becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the 2017 Honda Cup, presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on June 26 in downtown Los Angeles.
