ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Doubles continued to thrive for women's tennis on day two of the Michigan Invitational, as the Sun Devils swept their three matches against Tennessee.

Meanwhile in singles, the Devils fell victim to No. 14 Michigan, who have four ranked players within the top 80.

"The singles against Michigan was tough as we expected," said head coach Sheila McInerney. "I thought Kelley and Savannah played and competed very well, and pulled out two nice wins. Alex did a great job also winning in straight sets. Kassidy, Sammi and Nicole were a little too up and down today in their level to pull out wins."

The lady Wolverines won four of the seven matches, including an upset from No. 80 Brienne Minor over No. 63 Kassidy Jump in straight sets. After a battle in the first set, which ended with Minor winning the tiebreak 7-6(4), she rolled through the second 6-1.

The primetime match-up was on court seven, as No. 20 Kate Fahey dualed with No. 49 Sammi Hampton. Like her doubles teammate, Hampton would drop both of the first two sets, 6-2, 6-1.

ASU's Kelley Anderson was able to pull the upset in her match, rallying to defeat No. 78 Chiara Lommer in the final two sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Freshman Savannah Slaysman grinded out her match with Mira Ruder-Hook, clinching the match with a tiebreak in the third set. The match ended 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(3).

The only other singles victory for the Devils came from senior Alex Osborne against Kara Hall of Michigan, as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

In doubles, No. 36 Anderson and Slaysman continued to roll, defeating Brittany Lindl and Eve Repic of Tennessee, 6-4.

The duo of Jump and Hampton knocked off Johanna Silva and Ashley Bongart, 6-3, while Osborne and Nicole Fossa-Huergo made easy work of Gabby Schuck and Sadie Hammond, 6-1.

"I was very pleased with our doubles play as all three teams played solid, efficient doubles," said McInerney. "We had a high percentage of first serves and returns in play, which is key to good doubles."

Day three tomorrow will feature singles against DePaul and doubles against Michigan. The Wolverines also feature two of the top doubles pairs in the country in No. 4 Fahey and Alex Najarian and No. 29 Minor and Ruder-Hook.
