TEMPE, Ariz.—The Arizona State volleyball team and Director of Volleyball Stevie Mussie announced on Tuesday that Louisville transfer Maya McClendon will join the Sun Devils for her senior season in 2016.

The 2013 AAC Freshman of the Year, McClendon (5-10, outside hitter) earned six ACC Freshman of the Year honors that season, the most in conference history. She notched 330+ kills in her freshman and sophomore seasons to lead the Cardinals, and posted a career high 21 kills against Appalachian State in 2014.

“We are thrilled that Maya will be joining us for her senior year,” Mussie said. “The experience and leadership she’s gained from her time in the AAC is valuable with the young roster we’re going to have this season. She knows what it’s going to take to be successful, and we look forward to the level of competitiveness she’s going to bring to our gym.”

This past season, McClendon posted a season-high 17 kills in Louisville’s NCAA Tournament opening round match against Illinois. She made appearances in 28 of the Cardinals’ 32 matches in 2015.

A native of Louisville, Ky., McClendon graduated from DuPont Manual High School, where she played both volleyball and lacrosse. McClendon was an AAU All-American from 2006-13, and a member of the 2012 USA Junior National Team.

The daughter of Roger and Suzanne McClendon, Maya has one sister, Deja, and two brothers, Marquis and Jordan. Her father played basketball at the University of Cincinnati, while her older sister was an All-American who played volleyball at Penn State from 2010-13.

McClendon is majoring in psychology, with a minor in biological sciences.
