QUICK CAREER RECAP
Was one of the most improved players in the nation in 2012-13 and finished his three-year career in convincing fashion by earning second-team All-Pac-12 honors as he led the Pac-12 in double-doubles with 13. Earned a spot on the five-man Pac-12 All-Defensive Team, was the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a first-team Pac-12 All-Academic Team honoree. Has already earned his bachelor's (B.S., Communications, `12) and master's degrees (Liberal Studies, `13) from Arizona State. Was an ironman as he averaged 37.7 minutes in the 18 Pac-12 games, second in the league. His nine double-doubles in Pac-12 games also led the league and his 13 overall matched the second-most by a Sun Devil in the Pac-12 era (1978-79), as Ike Diogu had 15 in 2004-05 and Kurt Nimphius also had 13 in 1979-80. Posted 14 20-point games in his career.
REMINDER JUST HOW MUCH CARRICK IMPROVED
In his first two seasons at Arizona State, Carrick Felix had zero double-doubles. In 2012-13, he led the league with 13 and in Pac-12 regular season games he had a league-best nine. In Pac-12 regular season games he averaged 13.9 points and 8.7 rebounds, as only Stanford's Dwight Powell (15.6 ppg. and 8.8 rpg.) was equal in those numbers. He shot .500 from the field in 2012-13 after shooting .411 in his first two seasons, averaged 2.8 rebounds in his first two seasons but finished at 8.1 in his senior year and shot .284 from the three-point stripe in first two years but jumped to .374 his final year.
OTHER 2012-13 NOTES
Played 44 turnover-free minutes in 98-93 overtime track meet win over USC on Jan. 24, in a road win in Pullman on Jan. 31, in a 40-minute effort on Feb. 9 vs. Stanford and in a huge overtime win at Colorado on Feb. 16. A three-time winner of the Pac-12 Player of the Week, he twice posted 20/10 digits with 23/11 vs. Washington State on Feb. 20 and 23/11 vs. UCLA on Jan. 26. Was Sun Devil leading scorer in 11 games, top rebounder in 15 games.
PRIOR TO 2012-13
Had a five-game stretch in 2010-11 when he might have been best Sun Devil on the court but his first season was cut in half after a midseason illness. He averaged 13.6 points (tied for team lead), 3.6 rebounds, 31.2 minutes and was 14-of-18 (.778) from the free throw line in a five-game stretch but got illness prior to Washington road trip and he had only one double-digit game the rest of the season. Had a medical redshirt at College of Southern Idaho in first season and played high school ball at Millenium High School in Goodyear, Ariz. He averaged 19.7 points and 13 boards in senior year at Millenium (2007-08) and 14.8 points and 4.7 rebounds in 2009-10 at College of Southern Idaho.
WHAT COACH SENDEK SAID
At the end of the athletic season at the Sun Devil student-athlete graduation luncheon, each Sun Devil head coach offers a quote to be read prior to the student-athlete speaking. Here is what Coach Sendek had to say about Carrick on May 4, 2012, after earning his undergraduate degree:
"We are proud and delighted to celebrate Carrick Felix's undergraduate graduation with a B.S. in Communications. At the same time, we are excited as he begins to pursue his master's degree in Liberal Studies. Carrick continues to be a shining star and a good will ambassador for our basketball program and our university. He is an unselfish, caring teammate and a serving compassionate participant in our community. Carrick's charisma, gentle heart, and easy smile make him everybody's friend. Carrick understands and appreciates the value of higher education. His academic determination and perseverance position him to inspire others who may follow in his footsteps, and to be a leader in our community. Coaching Carrick is a great honor, and I look forward with joy to our next season together. And we thank Carrick's mom, Beverly, for entrusting her son with us."
