RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Despite a slow start, including their first multiple-goal deficit of the season, the No. 16 Arizona State University water polo rallied for 10 goals in the second half to down CS Bakersfield, 12-6, in the final game of the Lancer Invitational in Riverside, Calif. The victory improved the Sun Devils to 3-0 on the season while the Roadrunners slipped to 1-3.

CSUB jumped out to an early 2-0 lead following one quarter of play before the Sun Devils answered for a 2-1 score. But, the Roadrunners again outscored the Sun Devils, 2-1, in the second stanza to take a 3-2 lead at the intermission. Following the break, the Sun Devil offense awoke and scored six goals to CSUB's two in the third quarter before adding four more in the final quarter of play for a 12-6 decision. The six-goal third quarter marked the second time on the day that ASU tallied six or more goals in that stanza after hanging seven on CS San Bernardino in the morning contest.

Rookie Rowie Webster (Melbourne, Australia) led the scoring charge with three, giving her tallies of two or more goals in all three games this season and the early lead in the team scoring race with eight goals. She was joined in the scoring column by Raelyn Ritchie (Jr., Newport Beach, Calif.) and Ashley Bower (Jr., Bondi Beach, Australia), who each added a pair of goals, while Kim Buck (So., Lisle, Ill.), Addison Doud (Fr., Laguna Beach, Calif.), Katie Hedley (Jr., Lake Forest, Calif.), Lindsay Williams (Jr., Long Beach, Calif.) and Tessa Wyborny (Sr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) each added solo scores.

Goalie Caylinn Wallace (So., Laguna Hills, Calif.) stopped seven shots in the contest to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Sun Devils return to action in California next weekend as they travel to the Bay Area to compete in the 2006 Stanford Invitational. In what is shaping up to be one of the toughest tournaments this season, ASU will face No. 4 Hawaii and No. 6 California on Saturday before meeting No. 1 UCLA and an opponent to be determined later.
