PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior Sun Devil Dwight Phillips placed second in the men's long jump during the second day of action at the 106th Penn Relays at Franklin Field this afternoon.
With his season-best leap of 26-1, Phillips became the first individual for the men's squad to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships in Durham, N.C., May 31 through June 3. Arizona State has also met the automatic standard in the 4x100m relay and has six other provisional qualifiers.
The women's team has two automatic qualifiers for nationals and seven others provisionally.
In Thursday's action, five NCAA qualifying standards were met and five Sun Devils posted season best times.
ASU has now notched four top-five finishes at the Penn Relays.
Phillips is scheduled to compete in the triple jump tomorrow, Sat., April 29, as the Penn Relays conclude. The Sun Devils also sent a squad to compete tomorrow at the Oregon Invitational in Eugene, Ore.
