Kaylyn Castillo Signs With Akron Racers

Former Sun Devil to play professionally

2012:
Will be joining the Sun Devils as a graduate manager.

As a student-athlete
2011:

While Kaylyn originally transferred from Louisville, she has wasted no time in becoming a backbone in both the Sun Devil offensive attack and defensive stance. She took over starting catcher duties for the Maroon & Gold in 2010 while wielding a red-hot bat as well which tied her for third on the team in RBIs with 40 for a .322 batting average with three home runs (one of which came at UCLA... for the second straight year) and 10 doubles, proving that being pint-sized doesn't matter. Stepping in behind the dish as well, Castillo helped lead the Sun Devil pitching staff to 44 wins and their fifth consecutive NCAA Super Regional appearance. She also posted a .996 fielding percentage proving she's just as dangerous with a glove on her hand. For her efforts Kaylyn took home Second Team All Pac-10 honors, as well as a Pac-10 All-Academic Team Honorable Mention.

2010:
Kaylyn transferred from Louisville to blaze a stellar sophomore campaign in 2009. Coming into a new team, Castillo wasted no time making sure her presence was known as the tiny catcher showed she packed a punch showcasing her skills both at the plate and behind it. Hitting .315 on the season, Castillo collected seven doubles and six home on the year, producing a .483 slugging percentage while splitting duties behind the plate with senior catcher, Renee Welty where Castillo went on to collect a .988 fielding percentage as well as making sure base runners knew she had the arm to keep them at bay, catching five runners stealing on the year.

Prior to ASU:
Prior to joining the Sun Devil squad, Kaylyn transferred from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky where she played one season for the Cardinals. Before her time in Louisville, Castillo was a standout athlete at Norco High School in Norco, Calif. where she lettered in softball, basketball and volleyball. Her long list of awards includes being named All-League Academic 2003-2007, All-League Softball 2006 & 2007, All-County 2006 & 2007, All-State 2007 as well as innumerable Coaches Awards. Her prowress at the plate helped Castillo lead the Norco Cougards where she hit .500 in 2006 and .400 in 2007. Outside of Norco, Castillo also helped lead the OC Batbusters to the 16U National Title. An avid student as well, Castillo was given Honors with Distinction for her 4.0 GPA, as well as Academic Excellence in Chemistry, Theater Arts and Language Arts.

Personal:
The Business Marketing major and Anthropology minor was born to Daniel (Pool Route Owner) and Kathie (Attendance Clerk)Castillo of Norco, Calif. on October 13, 1989 and has one brother, Cole. Her full name is Kaylyn Mirielle Castillo.
