ASU Women's Golf Leads by 10 Strokes after 2nd Round of PING/ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz - The seventh-ranked Arizona State women's golf team took the lead at the PING/ASU Invitational after a second round score of 292 (4-over), to finish the cold, windy day 10 strokes ahead of Duke with a 597.

Duke is in second place with a 607 (304-303). TCU (304-312--616), Arizona (307-313--620) and Tulsa (314-308--622) round out the top-five teams after two rounds.

Freshman Caroline Laurens and senior Jody Niemann led the Sun Devil team, each firing season-low rounds. Laurens, the only player to card a sub-par score, fired a two-under-par 70 to finish the day tied for 10th. Niemann finished tied for fourth with a 150 after shooting an even 72 on the day.

Sophomore Grace Park and senior Keri Cornelius both shot a three-over-par 75. Park is currently second in the individual standings with a four-over-par 148 (73-75), while Cornelius finished 12th with a nine-over-par 153 (78-75). Senior Tui Selvaratnam shot a second round score of 80 (156) to finish tied for 22nd.

Competing individually, freshman Lisa Meredith finished tied for 42nd with a 159 (76-83), while sophomore Molly Cooper is tied for 57th place with a 161 (77-84). Sophomore Michaela Friberg, also competing as an individual for ASU, finished tied for 79th with a 167 (85-83).

Duke's Beth Bauer continues to lead the individual standings. Bauer carded a second round score of 75 to finish with a 147, one stroke ahead of ASU's Grace Park. TCU's Angela Stanford in third with a 149 (75-74), while Jenny Chuasiriporn (Duke), Georgina Simpson (San Jose State), Gwladys Nocera (New Mexico State) and Jody Niemann (ASU) are all tied for fourth with a six-over-par 150.

The final round of the PING/ASU Invitational tees off at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe.
