#6 Softball Blanks #8 Stanford 6-0

May 5, 2006

- With Katie Burkhart striking out 10 and the Sun Devil offense putting eight hits on the board the #6 Arizona State Softball team snapped their 3-game losing streak with a 6-0 win over #8 Stanford Friday night at Farrington Stadium. The Sun Devils are now 43-10 on the season and pull to an even 7-7 in Pac-10 play while Stanford falls to 35-13 and 7-9 in conference play.

The Sun Devils snapped back into their old form early in the game as they post three runs on the Cardinal in the first inning with Missy Penna walking three and Kaitlin Cochran taking first off a bunt single followed with contact from Michelle Smith and Ashley Werschky to bring in runs for ASU.

ASU cushioned their 3-0 lead in the third by adding three more to the score after a lead-off walk to Rhiannon Baca and singles from Michelle Smith, Ashley Werschky and Sharee Zaleski brought around three more as the Sun Devils took a 6-0 lead in the third.

The Cardinal was unable to answer the Sun Devil offense as Katie Burkhart fanned 10 and was backed by a flawless Sun Devil defense to keep Stanford shut out on the night.

The Sun Devils return to action tomorrow as they set to face the #7 Cal Golden Bears at Farrington Stadium in at 7 p.m.
