#4 ASU Water Polo Takes on #3 USC at Home on Saturday

March 22, 2012

TEMPE – The #4 Arizona State University women’s water polo team returns home this weekend as the squad takes on #3 USC at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz., on Saturday, March 24 at Noon PT.

The Sun Devils are riding a four-game winning streak after sweeping doubleheaders on Sunday and Tuesday.  The team posted victories against Iona, Pomona-Pitzer, #18 Princeton and Azusa Pacific over the past week after dropping a tough match to top-ranked UCLA on Saturday, 8-6.

The Sun Devils have outscored their opponents 73-23 during the current four-game winning streak and have improved to 20-3 on the season (2-1 in MSPF play).  It’s just the second time in school history the team has reached the 20 win plateau and the women are well on the way to topping the school record in victories with about eight games left in the season.

Arizona State has scored 297 goals on the season thus far through 23 games.  To put that number into perspective, last year’s team had just 152 through the same number of games.

The Trojans enter the weekend with a 12-3 record overall and are 1-1 in conference play.  The Sun Devils have not defeated USC since the Trojans were the No. 2 team in the country in 2008 – the biggest upset in ASU history.
