Monica Vaughn posted the second lowest round of her career (67) in round one as ASU sat at fourth place after 18 holes. Her fellow teammates rallied around her to propel the Sun Devils to second at the end of play Monday.
"I am very pleased with how we competed today," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "Monica posted one of her best collegiate rounds in the morning and was supported well by the entire team. I look forward to tomorrow to see what this team can accomplish together."
Plagued by weather, the Sun Devils' practice round Sunday was cut short while round two was also halted on Monday. The 16-team field will finish round two at 7:30 am MT/6:30 am Arizona time Tuesday before the regularly scheduled round three.
Sophia Zeeb also posted her second lowest single round score in round one (72) while Madison Kerley rounded out the top 25, T24th after day one.
Taylor Coleman saw the first action of her ASU career after redshirting the 2015-16 season, birdieing three holes in round one and three more in round two with five holes yet to play.
Roberta Liti rounded out the squad with two of the team's lowest scores on holes seven and 18 in round one.
In a hotly contested battle for the top spot, ASU, Baylor, and Oklahoma State have each held the lead at one point throughout day one. The Cowgirls currently hold the lead, 12 under par, while the Sun Devils are at 10 under par.
