Ontario, Canada – Sun Devil senior-to-be Jared du Toit concluded a memorable week Sunday afternoon garnering a top-10 finish at the 2016 RBC Canadian Open, hosted at Glenn Abbey Golf Club. Collecting a 72-hole total nine-under, 279 (67-71-70-71), du toit earned low-amateur honors becoming the first Canuck Amateur to record a top-10 finish at Canada's coveted championship since Doug Bajus in 1954.
Netting an exemption into the event by virtue of medaling at the Glencoe Invitational in mid-june, the Kimberly, British Columbia native quickly transcended the meager expectations often preemptively placed on amateurs competing amongst professionals, sustaining success early and often over the course of the four-day tournament. The Sun Devil swinger quickly earned the enamor of the tournament gallery, who fervently supported their fellow countryman.
Despite exiting play without the victory to his credit, the top Canadian Amateur garnered both national and international attention courtesy of his efforts.
Representing the Sun Devils' top returning starter in the fall, du Toit will look to fill the void of departing seniors Jon Rahm, Max Rottluff, and Alberto Sanchez.
Arizona State proved well represented across the across the board as three Sun Devils including the aforementioned du Toit finished within the top-15. Recent Sun Devil graduate turned professional Jon Rahm notched a career-best second-place finish. The two-time Ben Hogan recipient fired a final round five-under, 67 finishing a shot back of Tournament of champion Jhonattan Vegas at 11-under. Former Sun Devil great Chez Reavie a champion of the RBS in 2008, signed off on a four-under 68 to close the event tied for 14th at seven-under. The Sun Devils collectively return to action in just under two months, slated to compete at the Fighting Illini Invitational Sept. 16-18.
