OJAI, Calif. – After qualifying for the semifinals in the Pac-12 singles invitational bracket, Senior Joanna Smith fell to USC’s second-seeded Meredith Xepoleas to close out Arizona State’s competition in the Pac-12 Championships, Saturday, in Ojai, Calif. Smith, seeded seventh in the invitational bracket, lost to Xepoleas, 6-2, 6-2.
“I am very happy with our singles performances during the Pac-12 Tournament,” said head coach Sheila McInerney. “Even in our losses I think there were a lot of positives.”
Junior Desirae Krawczyk advanced to the Pac-12 Championship singles quarterfinals for the second consecutive season before falling to top-seeded Giuliana Olmos of USC.
I do think our doubles play was below par this week and we will need to improve upon that if we want to advance to the NCAA tournament.
Next up, the Sun Devils (15-7, 6-4 Pac-12) will wait for NCAA Championship selections. Under head coach Sheila McInerney, the Sun Devils have qualified for 28-straight postseason appearances and 29 overall – the longest active streak at Arizona State.
