SCOUTING OREGON STATE (2-5, 1-0 Pac-12)
Oregon State pulled off one of the more surprising upsets earlier in the week, defeating #17 Stanford, 18-15, at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore. Cody Crawford defeated Nathan Butler at heavyweight in a 3-1 sudden victory decision, which proved to be the difference maker in the match. OSU has won the Pac-12 title for the last five seasons.
Individually, Joey Delgado (149) is ranked by 3 different publications - No. 13, No. 14, and No. 18 - by Amateur Wrestling News, The Open Mat, and Intermat, respectively. Corey Griego (197) is ranked No. 17/No. 20 by The Open Mat and AWN and Crawford (HWT) is ranked No. 17 by AWN.
For comparison, the Beavers finished 16th at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and 21st at Midlands while the Sun Devils finished in the top-10 at both events (7th and 3rd, respectively).
Oregon State faces Boise State on Friday night in Boise before welcoming the Sun Devils to Corvallis on Sunday.
HALL NAMED PAC-12 WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Tanner Hall (HWT) received the Sun Devils' third Pac-12 weekly accolades of the season in the fifth week of the award after defeating Illinois' Brooks Black after six rounds of overtime on Sunday, Jan. 29.
The exciting match featured controversy after Tanner Hall originally was awarded a 2-point takedown at the buzzer of the first sudden victory period before the video review declined the original call. Hall ultimately won the close bout on riding time following the fourth tiebreaker period.
