"We could not be more thrilled to start our NCAA tenure at a first-class NHL arena, especially against the University of Arizona," ASU Head Coach Greg Powers said. "We are excited to see the fan support as we begin our move into Division I and are appreciative to the Coyotes for welcoming us into their home."
The game features a continuation of the rivalry of Arizona’s top collegiate hockey teams which began when they were both members of the non-varsity American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). It will be the first Division I hockey game played in the state in more than 30 years and the first in an NHL arena.
“We feel like it’s a great opportunity for our boys to experience that, they will never forget,” Arizona Head Coach Chad Berman said. “To be apart of something so historic as this, it’s a huge moment for the growth of hockey in the West in general.”
