MEN'S SQUAD TO COMPETE IN PREVIEW: The Arizona State men, who finished fifth in the final Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and sixth at the NCAA Championships, will compete in the 2001 Ping/Golfweek Preview tournament Sept. 28-30 (Friday -Sunday) at the Ohio State Scarlet course in Columbus, Ohio.
Also in the field are the other nine teams that comprised the final top 10 in this season's rankings -- Georgia (1), Georgia Tech (2), Clemson (3), national champion Florida (4), Arizona (6), Texas (7), Wake Forest (8), East Tennessee State (9) and Augusta State (10).
Earning invitations via their finish at this year's NCAA Championship were Virginia Tech, Pacific (Calif.) and Oklahoma. Rounding out the 15-team field are Oklahoma State and host team Ohio State.
The 13th edition of the Preview, which is held each fall at the site of the following spring's men's NCAA Division I Men's Championship, will consist of 18 holes of competition each day with a practice round scheduled for Sept. 27.
Georgia is the defending champion, winning the rain-shortened (36 holes) 2000 Preview at Duke by four strokes over Brigham Young. Medalist at the tournament was Georgia Tech senior Bryce Molder, who went on to earn first-team All-America and player of the year honors.
Other past Preview winners include Oklahoma State (1989 and 1998), UNLV (1993, `96, 97), Arizona State (1991 and 1992), Clemson (1990), Stanford (1994) and Northwestern (1999). Arizona State also won in 1995, but it was the Ping/Golfweek Invitational as it was not played at the NCAA Championship site.
UNLV is the only team to win the Preview (fall 1997) and the NCAA (spring 1998) in the same season, accomplishing the feat at the University of New Mexico's Championship course in Albuquerque.

Jones, a native of Sydney, Australia, finished last season with a 71.46 stroke average and posted seven top-10 and six top-five finishes in 12 appearances.
