TEMPE, Ariz.-- Arizona State head women's basketball coach Charli Turner Thorne gave birth to a baby boy at 3:55 a.m. Tuesday in a Valley hospital.
Conor Troy Thorne, the first child of Turner Thorne and husband Will Thorne, weighed 8 pounds and 3 ounces.
Turner Thorne, 32, is planning to return to practice Thursday or Friday, as the Sun Devils host Arizona in a rivalry game Saturday at 6 p.m. The third-year coach has coached full-time throughout her pregnancy, however, she did not travel to ASU's games at Cal and Stanford Jan. 28 and 30 as a precautionary measure.
Arizona State (10-10 overall, 4-7 Pac-10) is coming off a home sweep of the Washington schools last weekend, including a come-from-behind overtime victory over Washington on Feb. 6, Turner Thorne's due date. The Sun Devils are currently in sixth place in the Pac-10, and with seven games remaining on the schedule have already equalled their win total from 1997-98. ASU freshman forward Theresa Jantzen was named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Feb. 8
OF NOTE: Arizona State Associate Athletic Director Sandy Hatfield Clubb also gave birth to a son Tuesday morning. The child is the first for Hatfield Clubb and her husband, Jeffrey Clubb. Tristan Lee Clubb was born at 1:19 a.m. in the same Valley hospital. He weighed 7 pounds and 10 ounces.
