WACO, Texas – Sun Devil Women's Tennis (14-9) fell in the quarterfinals against No. 17 Oklahoma State (19-6) Friday morning in Waco, Texas at Hurd Tennis Center. The Sun Devils will now await their postseason fate with the NCAA Selection show slated for April 28th for the NCAA Tournament.
Karsyn Evans gave the Sun Devils their first point of the match after her opponent had to medically retire two games into the match. The Cowgirls took a 2-1 lead on court two, defeating Tverijonaite 6-4, 6-4.
After dropping the first set, AIya Nupbay traded games with No. 76 Gracie Epps of Oklahoma State, however fell in the second set 7-5 which gave the Cowgirls a 3-1 lead. The match was eventually clinched after Sara Svetac was unable to overcome being a set down and fell 7-5 in the second set.
Patricja Spaka and Lily Taylor both won their first sets in their respective matches, each winning 6-3. Taylor was forced to play a third set where she was serving to tie the set 3-3 when the match was called. For the senior, she was in a second set tiebreaker attempting to win her fourth straight match.
Oklahoma State claimed the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 wins on courts two and three. Spaka and Taylor on court one were down 5-4 when the point was clinched.
