TEMPE– Sun Devil Lacrosse (8-4, 1-0) will host their last non-conference game against No. 7 Maryland (7-3, 3-1) on Thursday, April 3, at 12 p.m. AZT. The Maroon & Gold will have a chance to defeat a ranked opponent for the first time since May 5, 2022 when the team downed No. 16 USC.
A win would keep ASU undefeated at home, as the team has compiled a program-best 6-0 start at home in 2025. Thursday will be the first meeting all-time between the two programs, as blue-blood Maryland will be the second highest ranked team to come to Tempe in program history since ASU hosted No. 6 Michigan last season.
Sun Devil Outlook:
The Sun Devils snapped a two-game skid with a win at home last weekend to claim the program's first Big 12 Conference victory. The 14-12 win over Cincinnati was the team's first win this season when trailing entering the fourth quarter. Katie Vahle (Goalkeeper) and Anna Viglione (Midfielder) received Big 12 weekly honors
ASU has a pair of Devils in the NCAA leaderboards, as Jordyn Behar's 46 assists are the most in the NCAA, and Anna Viglione's 135 draw controls are the second most by an individual. Because of Viglione's dominance, ASU has the second most draw controls per game in the NCAA, averaging over 18 per game.
Scouting the Opponent:
The Terrapins boast a 7-3 record through 10 games this season. They hold a 2-2 record on the road after dropping two of their last three games to #3 UPenn and #15 Northwestern.
Maryland started their season 6-1 with wins over No. 13 James Madison and No. 11 Michigan to sit as high as No. 5 in the IWLCA Polls. Since then, they sit at No. 7 and are 16 in the NCAA RPI rankings.
Their offense is led by junior attacker Kori Edmondson, who has recorded 29 goals and an 83.3 shot on goal percentage this season. She earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors and scored 41 goals her freshman year.
