Lawrence, KS. – No. 29 Sun Devil Women's Tennis (7-4, 2-1 Big 12) was unable to relish a comeback against the Kansas Jayhawks (8-5, 2-1 Big 12) in a 4-2 defeat at Jayhawk Tennis Center Friday evening in Lawrence. 

Freshman Aiya Nupbay and Lily Taylor accumulated wins in singles play for the Sun Devils on courts four and six. Both freshmen have won two straight matches in singles play. The team will look to rebound Sunday against No. 59 Iowa State at 9 a.m. MST. 

In doubles Emilija Tverijonaite and Aiya Nupbay made quick work of their doubles match by winning 6-1. On court one Patricija Spaka and Lily Taylor suffered their first loss of the season, 6-2, and Karin Altori and Sara Svetac battled in doubles but fell 4-6 and could not grab the doubles point.

In singles play, Taylor and Karin Altori won their first sets in their respective single matches 6-2. Aiya Nupbay battled on court six but managed a win in the first set 6-4. Tverijonaite, Spaka and Svetac all fell in their opening sets.

Taylor secured the first point for the Sun Devils winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 for her second straight win of the season to tie the match at one-all. Then Kansas took a 2-1 lead in the match after Tverijonaite fell in straight sets.

Svetac attempted to come back in the second set, however, she fell in straight sets 5-7, 5-7 as Kansas won their third point of the match. Nupbay gave the Sun Devils a second point winning 6-4, 6-4 on court six for her second straight victory.

Spaka forced a third set by winning the second set 6-4, however, was unable to keep the momentum falling in three sets and Kansas securing the win.

The Sun Devils continue Big 12 conference play returning to Tempe to host West Virginia on March 14 at 4 p.m. AZT. Then they'll host Cincinnati at 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 16.
