TEMPE – Winners of three straight matches, No. 26 Sun Devil Women's Tennis (7-3, 2-0 Big 12) travels to the midwest to face No. 49 Kansas (7-5, 1-1 Big 12) on Friday at 3 p.m. MST and No. 59 Iowa State (7-3, 1-1 Big 12) on Sunday at 9 a.m. AZT. 

Live stats and a live stream are available for both matches this weekend. The match on Friday can be seen on playsight and the dual against Iowa State can be watched on Swing Vision.

The Sun Devils are aiming to extend their winning streak and remain unbeaten in Big 12 play. It's the first 2-0 start to conference play since 2021.

Sun Devil Outlook:
No. 26 Arizona State (7-3)
  • It's the second straight year the Sun Devils have met the Jayhawks, their last meeting was a 4-2 win in the ITA Kickoff weekend on Jan. 26, 2024. ASU has a 5-0 record against Kansas all-time.
  • It will mark the second meeting against the Cyclones on Sunday, their only meeting was a 7-0 win on Jan. 21, 2011 in Tempe.
  • Senior Patricija Spaka remains unbeaten going 8-0 in doubles this season with Lily Taylor as her partner. She is also 6-0 in singles play.
    • The Latvian native is two singles wins away from 60 career single's victories and two doubles wins away from 70 career double's victories.
  • Sophomore Emlija Tverijonaite is ranked #27 in the latest ITA rankings and has won five straight singles matches. The NCAA qualifier has a 6-2 record in singles.
  • Sophomore Sara Svetac is unbeaten in the #2 spot this year (4-0) and carries a four match winning streak in singles.
  • ASU has an 19-8 record in doubles this season and have went 8-2 in doubles as a team.

Opponent Outlook:
No. 49 Kansas (7-5)
  • Last week the Jayhawks split, falling to No. 13 Texas Tech but bouncing back over Colorado with a 4-2 victory in Boulder. 
  • Gracie Mulville is 7-3 on the season and has the most wins on the team in singles play. She has played from the #1 spot all year and has won four straight.
  • Anna Putilina is 6-2 on the year while playing from the #6 spot in singles and has won five straight.
  • The doubles pair Gracie Mulville and He Janse Van Vuuren are 8-3 this season from the top spot in doubles.

No. 59 Iowa State (7-3)
  • The Cyclones have won three of their last four matches and went 1-1 in the first weekend of Big 12 play, beating Colorado 4-3.
  • Iowa State will face Arizona on Friday before taking on the Sun Devils.
  • Anna Kuearum is ranked 97th in the latest ITA rankings and has a 7-1 record this spring season. She is 6-1 from the #1 spot and has won four straight. 
  • The team is 7-2 from the #2 spot this season. Julia Cambloe has a 6-2 record in singles and has gone 4-2 from the #2 slot.
Last Time Out:
The Sun Devils opened Big 12 play with wins over Utah and No. 51 BYU last week. Against Utah the team endured a gritty 4-2 victory with three underclassmen winning single's matches and Tverijonaite sealing the win in three sets. Last Saturday against BYU, Taylor and Spaka secured the doubles point, leading to a 4-0 victory over the Cougars to move to 7-3.

IN THE RANKINGS:
The Sun Devils boast two players in the top 50 in the latest ITA Rankings which were updated on February 5. Emilija Tverijonaite is ranked 27th in the country after an NCAA tournament appearance and is currently 6-2 on the year. Sara Svetac entered the top-50 at the end of the fall and is currently No. 45. The Sun Devils are one of two teams (Oklahoma State) in the Big 12 to have at least two players ranked in the top-50 in the ITA rankings.

Two Sun Devil doubles pairs are ranked in the latest ITA rankings. Spaka and Taylor are No. 30 in the country after an 8-0 start and Karin Altori and Svetac are No. 79 in the country and are currently 7-3 this year.

SPARKY ON TOP:
Spaka has been lights out to start things off in her senior year. The senior is currently 6-0 in singles after playing from the #3 spot this season. Additionally, she has racked up an 8-0 record in doubles alongside partner Lily Taylor. From Latvia, she currently sits at 58 career wins in singles and has 68 career wins in doubles. She has a career winning percentage 

SUPER SARA:
The Sophomore is currently 6-2 this season and has split time between the #1 and #2 spots in singles. Svetac's was named Big 12 Player of the Week and earned a top-15 victory over Savannah Broadus of Pepperdine on Feb. 1. Svetac came off a successful fall season where she went 8-4 and is also 7-3 in doubles when paired with Karin Altori.

MAGNIFICENT MILLIE:
Emilija Tverijonaite became the first Sun Devil to qualify for the NCAA Singles tournament since 2021 and went to go 12-2 during the fall season. The sophomore has won four straight singles matches and helped clinch the win over No. 51 BYU this past weekend. This Spring she boasts a 6-2 record and is currently ranked No. 27 in the latest ITA rankings.

NEW CONFERENCE, WHO THIS?
The Sun Devils were picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 Conference in the preseason poll announced on Jan. 7. The maroon and gold also picked up a first-place vote. Prior to joining the Big 12, the Sun Devils boast a 24-11 record against Big 12 opponents. 

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Sun Devils continue Big 12 conference play returning to Tempe to host West Virginia on March 14 at 4 p.m. AZT. Then they'll host Cincinnati at 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 16.
