TEMPE – No. 30 Sun Devil Women's Tennis (9-4, 4-1 Big 12) cruised to 4-0 sweep over West Virginia (6-10, 0-5 Big 12) Friday morning at Whiteman Tennis Center moving to 6-0 at home and their second straight sweep in Big 12 play.
The Sun Devils will return to action Sunday against Cincinnati at 12 p.m. MST aiming to continue the momentum in conference play.
The No. 30 ranked doubles pair Patricija Spaka and Lily Taylor each won decisively by dropping only one game in their single's matches to secure straight set wins. The pair clinched the double's point for their ninth win of the season winning 6-3.
In doubles, Aiya Nupbay and Karsyn Evans dominated on court three, earning a swift 6-0 win on court #3 for their first win as a pair. On court #2, Karin Altori and Sara Svetac were trailing in their match 4-5 when Spaka and Taylor won on court one.
In singles, the Sun Devils carried the momentum by winning in all of their opening sets. Spaka and Evans won their first sets in their respective singles matches 6-0 and Taylor and Altori won their opening singles sets 6-1, respectively.
Spaka and Taylor made quick work in their singles matches by both winning in straight sets and only dropping one game each. Their victories gave Arizona State a 3-0 lead over West Virginia.
The Sun Deivls managed to clinch the match on court six thansk to Karsyn Evans winning 6-0, 6-2 and secured the team's second straight 4-0 sweep. Svetac, Altori, and Nupbay were all leading in their matches when the contest was called.
