TEMPE – Sophomore Sara Svetac has been named Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon after leading the team to a victory over No. 15 Pepperdine over the weekend.
It's the first Big 12 weekly honor by a Sun Devil this season and Svetac's first weekly award in her career.
The Croatian played a pivotal role in helping the Sun Devils move to 3-2 on the season, as she helped clinch both the doubles point and the match against Pepperdine. She moved to 4-1 on the season when paired with Karin Altori in doubles after defeating Duru Söke/Alexa Haron, 6-2 on court two.
In singles, she picked up a straight-set 7-5, 6-4 victory against NCAA Qualifier No. 13 Savannah Broadus on court one which helped clinch the win for Arizona State. The victory also marked the highest-ranked singles win of her career.
The victory also marked the team's first win over a top-15 opponent since defeating No. 7 Ohio State 4-1 in 2024, and gave head coach Jamea Jackson the first-ranked victory of her coaching tenure at Arizona State.
The Sun Devils will take a week off then head to Eugene to face former Pac-12 foe Oregon on February 14th set for 12 p.m. MST, then face Washington on February 16th at 12 p.m. MST.
