CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In the opening match of ITA Kickoff Weekend for Sun Devil Women's Tennis (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) fell to Wisconsin (1-0, 0-0 Big 10) Saturday afternoon, 4-2.
The Sun Devils will play in the consolation round against Alabama tomorrow at 8 a.m. MST/10 a.m. EST. The match can be watched on goheels.com/watch and can be tracked on live stats.
Arizona State vs. Wisconsin
The doubles pair of Aiya Nupbay and Emilija Tveriojaite won three of the last four games to secure the 6-4 win on court No. 3. After Sara Svetac and Karin Altori fell 4-6 on court No. 2. Patricija Spaka and Lily Taylor were triumphant in the tiebreaker, winning the first five points, to win the set and secure the doubles point.

Freshman Karin Altori won her opening set 6-3 over Kaja Jacobson, as Svetac, Tverijonaite and Taylor all dropped their first set against the Badgers. Wisconsin would tie the match at one with Taylor falling in straight sets, then take a 2-1 lead securing a win on court No. 1. The Badgers then took a 3-1 lead winning on court No. 2.
Altori won 6-3 in the third set to get her first three-set victory of her collegiate career, making it 3-2 in favor of Wisconsin. Spaka won the second set to force a third-set. However, Evans fell in the second set and was unable to win the decisive third-set where Wisconsin clinched the match. Spaka was ahead in the third set 4-1 when the match got called.
