INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Just a day after Sun Devil men's tennis earned their bid into the NCAA Tournament in their first season back as a program, senior Michaël Geerts added one of his own, qualifying for the singles tournament at Wake Forest University, the site of the championship round this season.

Geerts finished his first college tennis season strong, notching a 25-12 record en route to a No. 20 ranking by Oracle/ITA. The ranking makes the Belgian the highest ranked Sun Devil since No. 1 Sargis Sargsian in 1995, who won the program's lone singles title to earn the ranking.

Notching eight wins in his last 11 matchups, Geerts had a stellar resume in 2018. He is one of just three players to notch two wins over top-5 opponents, with wins over No. 1 Martin Redlicki of UCLA and No. 2 Mikael Torpegaard of Ohio State, both of whom were All-Americans this season.

He and doubles partner Tim Ruehl found success together late in the season as well. The tandem debuted against Stanford with a win and found themselves ranked No. 88 in last weeks Oracle/ITA poll, joining No. 48 Makey Rakotomalala/Andrea Bolla.

Anchoring court one all season long for the Sun Devils, Geerts led the team in wins over ranked opponents with five, and was ranked No. 20 in the latest poll. He also notched two match-clinching points, including sealing a victory over Alabama to win the 70th annual Blue Gray Tennis Classic, one of the oldest collegiate tennis tournaments in the country.
