Las Cruces, N.M. -- The ninth-ranked Sun Devil softball team will close out their non-conference slate with a single game at New Mexico State Tuesday afternoon. First pitch in Tuesday's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. MT.
The Sun Devils and Aggies met earlier this season with ASU coming out on top, 3-0. In that meeting, the Sun Devils were held scoreless through the first five innings of play before Marisa Stankiewicz blasted a solo-shot to center field that put ASU up, 1-0. Sophomore shortstop Jade Gortarez kept the offense rolling with a two-run homerun to give the Sun Devils the 3-0 advantage headed into the top of the seventh.
The Sun Devils enter the midweek tilt following a weekend sweep at Utah. In the three games, Arizona State out-hit the Utes, 29-14, leading to a 23-5 advantage in runs scored on the weekend.
In the circle, sophomore lefty G Juarez powered the Sun Devils to a pair of wins, racking up 18 strikeouts on the way. With her 10 strikeouts in game three, Juarez has now fanned 250 batters this season, a mark that ranks ninth in ASU single season history. The 250 K's is the most since Dallas Escobedo retired 310 batters by way of strikeout in the 2014 season.
The Arizona State offense also came to life during the Utah series, with seven ASU players hitting at or above .300 through the series in Salt Lake City. Sophomore outfielder Kindra Hackbarth paced the Devils at the plate, going 6-for-12 that included her fifth triple of the season.
Following the midweek matchup, the Sun Devils will return to Farrington Stadium to host Stanford for their final regular season home series of 2018. First pitch in game one against the Cardinal is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, with games two and three scheduled for Saturday at 6 and Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
