Sun Devils Fall in Pac-12 Opener to USCSun Devils Fall in Pac-12 Opener to USC
LOS ANGELES – The Arizona State lacrosse team (5-2, 0-1 Pac-12) continued the historical first season narrative Saturday afternoon, playing in the first Pac-12 lacrosse game in program history against the No. 12 USC Trojans at McAlister Field. The Sun Devils ultimately fell, 14-3, for just their second loss this season.

"It was another first for our team and the conference overall today as we played in our very first Pac-12 game against a ranked opponent in USC," said head coach Courtney Martinez Connor. "We certainly improved from the first to the second half, however we need to be able to step on to the field and compete with confidence from the very beginning as every conference game will be a battle."

The first conference goal in program history came courtesy of freshman Emily Glagolev with an assist from fellow freshman Kylie Kroeger. In the second half, sophomore Carley Adams hit the back of the net down low from junior Kerri Clayton while Clayton also added a free-position goal.

On the defensive side, the Sun Devils were able to hold the Trojans to just three goals in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper Berkeley Bonneau recorded six saves in the second half and 10 total in the game to tie her career high set in the first game against Kennesaw State.

"Our defense played tough and were a bright spot through the whole game," added Martinez Connor.

The Sun Devils also caused six Trojan turnovers and picked up 16 ground balls. Freshman Maddy Hunter led the team with six draw controls while sophomore Maddy Woodall picked up a career high three.

Up next the Sun Devils host a three-game home stand including the first conference lacrosse game played in Tempe. Arizona State will face Pac-12 foes Oregon (Friday, March 16, 6 p.m. PT) and No. 19 Colorado (Sunday, March 18, 11 a.m.) before their last non-conference match-up against Liberty on Tuesday, March 20 at 5 p.m.

All three games will be broadcasted live via pac-12.com/live. Admission is free to all fans attending the games at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium. Fans can follow all the action from the inaugural 2018 season by following @SunDevilWLax on social media.
