TEMPE, Ariz. – After earning the Sun Devils a spot in November's National Championship with their first race earlier this month, ASU triathlon looks to continue positive momentum at this weekend's East Regional Qualifier on Sunday, Oct. 2.
The second of four races this season for the inaugural team will take place in Browns Summit, N.C. near Greensboro and is hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Conference (MACTC) Draft-Legal Festival. The women's start time is set for 4:30 pm ET/1:30 pm AZ time.
Competing athletes will start the sprint-distance triathlon with an 800m swim in Lake Townsend followed by a 12.4-mile bike, and finish with a 3.1-mile run in and around Bryan Park and the Lake Townsend Marina.
Representing the Sun Devils this weekend are the four athletes on ASU's roster who did not compete in Naperville on Sept. 5 – Amy Darlington, Sarah Quintero, Lillie Robinson, and Kendal Williams – as head coach Cliff English found it important for each athlete to race at least once this regular season.
This weekend's race should be significantly larger than the first as over 40 female participants are registered.
Following Sunday, the Sun Devils will have one more chance to compete before the National Championship on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the West Regional Qualifier in Berkeley, Calif.
