The ASU Programming and Activities Board and the Sun Devil Men's and Women's Basketball teams are excited to announce a brand new way to start the season: Mill Madness.
Taking place on Friday, October 14, from 8-10 p.m. at the corner of 7th and Mill Avenue, Sun Devil fans can get a preview of what will be an exciting season of Sun Devil Basketball. The event is FREE and open to the public and will feature three-point shooting contests, a slam-dunk contest and other skill challenges. Games, food, and music from some of The Valley's best DJ's will make this an event you will not want to miss.
The teams both open play on Friday, Nov. 11 (Veteran's Day) at Wells Fargo Arena with the men taking on Portland State at 7 p.m. (Pac-12 Network) while the women take on Illinois State (time TBD).
The men's team returns Tra Holder, Kodi Justice and Obinna Oleka and welcomes transfer Shannon Evans II and top-50 recruit Sam Cunliffe from last year's squad which beat two ranked teams and eight top-100 RPI squads. The Sun Devils, 58-14 (.806) at home the past four seasons, will have their first five home games broadcast by Pac-12 Networks before it hosts an ESPN2 broadcast at 7 p.m. against Creighton. The 2016-17 Sun Devil men's basketball regular season concludeS with a visit from CBS on Saturday, March 4, for a 2 p.m. Territorial Cup Series matchup. The Sun Devils will make at least 10 appearances on an ESPN network, has three Fox Sports 1 tilts and the CBS matchup to finish the season before heading to the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena March 8-11.
The women's team returns three senior starters as posts Sophie Brunner, Quinn Dornstauder and Kelsey Moos are back from the 2015-16 squad that captured a share of the Pac-12 regular season title, won 26 games (tied for third-highest win total in program history) and went on to earn a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the highest placement in program history. Charli Turner Thorne, the 2016 Pac-12 Coach of the Year, will also welcome a five-member freshman class Sydney Goodson, Reili Richardson, Jamie Ruden, Kiara Russell and Robbi Ryan that was ranked among the nation's top-10 signing classes when it was announced last fall, and Sara Hattis, a graduate post who will be eligible to play this season after transferring to ASU from the University of Texas.

The team's will play at home on the same date four times in 2016-17 in addition to the season opener on Nov. 11. The women meet San Jose State on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. with the men following vs. Cal Poly at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 3, the women play Long Beach State (time TBD) while the men take on UNLV at 6 p.m. The men play New Mexico State on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m., with the women taking on Oral Roberts at 2 p.m. The Pac-12 Network will broadcast both games on Sunday, Feb. 26, with the women taking on UCLA at noon on Senior Day and the men taking on USC at 4:30.
