Orlando, Fla. – Linnea Strom birdied five holes on the back nine and two more on the front en route to a six-under-par, career-low 66 on day one at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.
"We had a solid day today," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "Linnea played a beautiful round of golf and it was a terrific way to start her sophomore season. We struggled on a few holes but finished strong. I am excited to see what this team can accomplish once we have a few more putts fall."
Strom's impressive performance put her in a tie for second with UCLA's Lilia Vu. Individually, South Carolina's Katelyn Dambaugh leads the pack, shooting an eight-under-par 64.
Noteably, Sophia Zeeb's 71 tied for her second lowest career round while Olivia Mehaffey made her collegiate debut.
In a "who's who" of women's collegiate golf, the Sun Devils are tied for sixth with Arkansas through the first of three rounds. ASU shot 283 overall as a team, five under par, just one stroke behind Florida in fifth and nine strokes behind South Carolina in the top spot.
The strong 12-team field prepares for the second set of 18 holes on Monday, Sept. 26, with teams teeing off between 8-9:30am ET (5-6:30 am AZ time).
