Cozumel, Mexico – Capping off the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Series schedule at the U23 Women's World Championships, Katie Gorczyca finished in the top half of the 38-competitor field.

Gorczyca finished No. 15 among the world's best female triathletes under 23 years of age with a time of 2:04:22. The Olympic-distance course (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run) is twice the distance of NCAA courses in each of the three legs of competition.

Her impressive overall time was just 14 seconds out of the next highest finish and 98 seconds out of the top 10.  Her 1:02:44 bike was as fast or faster than eight of the other top-15 finishers while her 19:16 swim was faster than seven other top-15 finishers.

Gorczyca rejoins her teammates in Tempe following the trip in preparation for a busy early October. After nearly a month between competitions, the team will compete on back-to-back weekends – at the East Regional Qualifier in Greensboro, N.C. on Oct. 2 and at the West Regional Qualifier in Berkeley, Calif. on Oct. 8 leading up to November's National Championship.
