RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico - Freshman Olivia Mehaffey and sophomore Linnea Strom start competition at the 27th International Golf Federation (IGF) Women's World Amateur Team Championships Wednesday, representing their home countries of Ireland and Sweden.

Ranked in the Women's World Amateur golf rankings at No. 5 and No. 8, respectively, Mehaffey and Strom are two of 12 top-25 golfers competing this week.

A record-breaking 55 teams in teams or two or three (164 players) enter the biennial competition for 2016.

Each women's team will play 18-holes of stroke play each day from Wednesday, Sept. 14-Saturday, Sept. 17 and the winning team will receive the coveted Espirito Santo Trophy. The men's side kicks off next week, with the winner receiving the Eisenhower Trophy.

The two lowest scores from each team comprise the team score for each round. The four round (72-hole) total for each team makes up the final team score.

Competition takes place at both the Mayakoba El Camaleon Golf Club and the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The Espirito Santo Trophy will be presented to the winning team Saturday evening at an awards ceremony.

Strom is joined on Sweden's team by recent East Carolina graduate Frida Gustafsson Spang and recent San Diego State grad Emma Henrikson while Mehaffey is joined on Ireland's team by Annabel Wilson and Duke's Leona Maguire.
