TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State women's golf program and head coach Missy Farr-Kaye announced their tournament schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 season.
The schedule features trips to both the east coast and two tournaments as far west as you can go in Hawaii. After taking third at the Pac-12 Championships with the same five starters all season -- comprised of two freshman, two sophomores and a junior -- the Sun Devils participate in some of the most competitive collegiate tournaments in the country.
The second tournament of the season takes the Devils to Orlando, Florida in September for beautiful weather and the Annika Intercollegiate, which annually features the top-ranked programs in the NCAA. This year it features 11 of the top-15 programs ranked by Golfstat.com, which includes the No. 11 Sun Devils.
That will be followed by two trips to the west coast with the Stanford Intercollegiate and the Pac-12 Preview in Kona, Hawaii. Following the winter break, the reigning individual champ, Vaughn, and her teammates will return to the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Feb. 11-13, 2017 in Palos Verdes, Calif. In 2016, Vaughn rallied from five strokes down for a career best six-under 65 on the final day to win in a field featuring the top-three ranked players in the country.
After nearly a month off following the Northrop Grumman, the Devils head back east to a familiar tournament -- the Darius Rucker Invitational in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Devils had their best finish at the inaugural tournament in 2013 with a fourth-place finish.
Farr-Kaye's team will also return to two other tournaments the program used to participate in, with the local Clover Cup in Mesa -- hosted by Notre Dame -- and the Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Maui, Hawaii. The regular season wraps up with the PING/ASU Invitational the first week of April.
The Pac-12 Championship will be played just down the I-10, as the University of Arizona hosts the conference tournament in April 2017.
The 2015-16 season was highlighted by individual victories for freshman Linnea Strom at the Pac-12 Championship and junior Monica Vaughn clinching her first outright collegiate victory.
Strom set the conference tournament 54-hole record with an 11-under, 205 (71-68-66) while coming from four strokes down entering the final day to shoot a career-low 66 to claim the title.
The rising sophomore and her Sun Devil teammates will be joined by one of the top recruits in the world, as Ireland's Olivia Mehaffey -- the No. 7 amateur in the world -- comes to Tempe for 2016-17.
