DUNDONALD, Belfast -- Arizona State junior Monica Vaughn advanced to the match play semifinal of the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship at the 6,194-yard, par-73 Dundonald Links.

To get there, the All-American had to defeat her incoming teammate Olivia Mehaffey in the first round of match play. Mehaffey finished the first two rounds of stroke play in second overall of the 144 player field, while Vaughn completed stroke play in 63rd overall. Only the low 64 players from the first two days of stroke play advanced to the match play championship bracket.

Vaughn -- ranked No. 15 in the WAGR -- needed an extra hole to finish the match with the No. 8-ranked amateur in the world.

The Reedsport, Oregon native then defeated Shannon Aubert of France 2&1, Jessica Porvasnik of the USA 2-up after 18, and finally Linn Grant of Sweden 8&7 in the quarterfinal.

Dewi Weber of the Netherlands ended up defeating Vaughn 1-up over 18 holes.

Freshman Linnea Strom of Sweden also participated in the tournament, but just missed the 64-player cut to enter match play after finishing in 68th place. However, the Pac-12 Champion was just one stroke off the cut.

Watch for Vaughn, Mehaffey and Strom on the course for the Devils in 2016-17.
