STANFORD, Calif. – The Sun Devils battled through a rain-soaked 18 holes to start play at the Stanford Intercollegiate, nearing the top of the leaderboards in third place as a team after day one.
"It rained from the first tee shot to the last putt today," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "I am proud of how this team competed today and how they were strong and resilient in how they handled conditions on a hard golf course. We still have more to learn and I look forward to the next two days."
Sophia Zeeb tops Arizona State individually through the first day of play, shooting an even-71 and sitting in a tie for eighth place. Olivia Mehaffey and Linnea Strom are each part of a tie for 18th, shooting 73 apiece (+2) in the first round.
Senior Monica Vaughn is just outside of the top-25 with two rounds to play, tied for 26th, shooting 74 (+3) on the day.
The No. 22-ranked Devils shot 291 (+7) as a team, just seven strokes out of the lead as Northwestern currently has the top spot (+1) while UCLA is in second (+3).
ASU tees off between 10 and 10:36 on Saturday, paired with Northwestern and UCLA as the top three teams.
