2013:
Beginning in the 2013 season, the former All-American Sun Devil will join the coaching staff as a graduate assistant manager.
Senior (2012):
Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Top 3 Finalist, Pac-12 Player of the Week (April 30, April 23, March 13, March 6), Top 3 Finalist for 2012 Player of the Year, posted a team-best single game high of seven RBI against Creighton (March 6), the second time she has tallied as much in one contest. Hit two multiple home run games, against Creighton (March 6) and Wichita State (March 3). Hit grand slams against No. 13 Stanford (April 20) and No. 11 Washington (April 27). Named CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team (May 3) and First Team Pac-12 All-Conference and Pac-12 Batting Champion (May 16). Named First Team NFCA All-West Region on May 17. Honored as First Team Academic All-America (May 24), which marks the second Academic All-America honor in her career, the other in 2011 as third team. First Team Pac-12 All-Academic (June 5). Finished her career with her third-straight All-America honor, being named First Team on May 30. Boyd ranks in the Top 5 in ASU career records in six categories and in single-season marks, she appears in the Top 25 in five areas. At the conclusion of her career, her named is sprinkled in the ASU records 25 times and she holds the No. 1 spot in career RBI (236) and doubles (60). Received the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship (July 2).
Junior (2011):
Capitalized on a brilliant junior year with a First Team All-American honor, and a top 3 finalist position for the 2011 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. Katelyn swung a .429 batting average, leading the team and coming in 25th in the nation. She recorded 79 runs for the Devils, which at 1.2 runs per game put her at third overall in national rankings. Boyd also led the squad in doubles with 14, and was second in RBI with 66. Her 18 home runs were the 13th most in the nation as well. Katelyn's name peppers the ASU record book, as her 2011 single season records include: batting average (.429 - 6th), home runs (18 - T-3rd), RBIs (66 - 4th), hits (82 - 6th), doubles (14 - T-9th), and stolen bases (20 - 13th). In career records, Boyd is now second overall in batting average with a .382 cumulative, third in home runs with 43, fourth in RBI with 174, fourth in doubles with 43, fourth in stolen bases with 60, and 13th in hits with 217. Awards include: First Team All Pac-10, First Team Pac-10 All-Academic, NFCA Second Team All-West Region, CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.
Sophomore (2010):
Named a First Team All-American after leading the country in nearly every offensive category at one point throughout the season, even after suffering two broken fingers on her left hand in April. Boyd also climbed up the ASU record books as well. At the end of the season in ASU single-season records Boyd found herself ranked in: batting average (.415 - ninth), home runs (15 - seventh), RBI (48 - 12th), hits (73 - 11th), doubles (12 - 17th) and stolen bases (27 - fifth). Boyd also inched up in the ASU career records as well, finishing ranked in home runs (25 - ninth), RBI (102 - 11th), doubles (29 - eighth) and stolen bases (35 - 10th). In addition to All-American honors Katelyn took home a First Team All Pac-10 award as well as a First Team Pac-10 All-Academic, NFCA First Team West Region and CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District award. The USA Softball program recognized Boyd's talents as she made the USA Softball Junior Team and competed in the World Cup over the summer of 2010.
Freshman (2009):
One of the few members of the 2009 team to do so, Boyd started all 66 of ASU's game on the year, holding down the shortstop position while bolstering the offensive firepower of the Sun Devils. Hitting a .308 on the year, Boyd not only scored 56 runs, good for second on the team, she also drove in a team-leading 60 RBI, which ties her for fourth all-time in ASU single-season records as well. Had a team-high 17 doubles which ties her for second in ASU single-season records as well and her 10 long balls placing her at 15th in ASU single-season records. Posted a .952 fielding percentage at the shortstop position. For her efforts after the 2009 season Katelyn was named to the All Pac-10 Freshman First Team and the All Pac-10 Second Team.
High School:
Prior to her time as a Sun Devil, Katelyn attended Horizon High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. A multiple letterwinner in softball and basketball, Katelyn was Senior Female Athlete of the Year in 2008 and had the highest batting average, slugging percentage, most RBIs and most home runs the same year. She was also a member of the National Women's Honor Society and names her most exciting moment in sports as playing against the Olympic team.
Personal:
A current family and human development major, Katelyn was born in Phoenix, Ariz., to Dan and Sue of Phoenix, Ariz. She has one older brother, Ben, who played basketball at Grand Canyon University. Her full name is Katelyn Elizabeth Boyd.
